Tree sap and pollen: stop clear coat damage before it sets

Sap and pollen are acidic. Left on paint, they etch the clear coat. We remove them safely, polish out the damage and seal your paint so it doesn't happen again.

Challenger, fresh wash

Does tree sap damage car paint?

Yes. Tree sap is acidic and slowly eats into your clear coat, leaving permanent etching and discoloration. Once it hardens, it takes specialized cleaners to remove, and scraping it off scratches the paint.

Pollen works the same way. Its spiny grains cling to paint, and water activates their acidity, so every spring rain on a pollen-covered car is a small chemical attack. Sap also films your windshield and clings to wiper blades, which can scratch the glass.

What level of treatment does your car need?

Stage one

Fresh sap that hasn't bonded. We remove it and apply a ceramic sealant that deters sap for up to six months. The most cost-effective fix.

Stage two

Sap that has hardened and collected dirt. Stronger cleaners, then a polish to address the etching it caused.

Stage three

Sap that has eaten into the clear coat. After removal, a two-step polish removes the marks and restores the shine.

How we remove sap safely

  1. 1

    Inspect

We find every spot and judge how long it has been there. Different saps need different chemistry.

  2. 2

    Break the bond

Commercial-grade sap removers soften and dissolve sap without harming paint.

  3. 3

    Polish and protect

We buff out etching, then apply a six-month ceramic sealant so sap and pollen rinse off next time.

Protect your paint through pollen season

Before pollen season

Deep clean and seal the paint in early spring. A slick, hydrophobic layer keeps pollen from bonding.

During the season

Rinse or wash regularly. Never wipe pollen off dry; it causes micro-scratches.

After the season

A reset detail: wash, decontaminate, inspect for damage and refresh the sealant.

How do I protect my car from pollen?

Seal the paint before the season, wash regularly during it, and never wipe it off dry.
