How to Maintain a Ceramic Coating
A ceramic coating makes your car easier to clean. It doesn't make it self-cleaning. Here's the ceramic coating maintenance routine that keeps it working for its full term.
The first week
- Keep it dry for the first 24 to 48 hours if you can.
- Don't wash it with soap for about a week while the coating fully cures.
Every two weeks
- Hand wash with a pH-neutral car soap and a clean mitt.
- Rinse from the top down and dry with a plush microfiber towel or a blower.
- Skip automatic car washes. Brushes and acidic "touchless" soaps wear the coating down.
As needed
- Remove bird droppings and sap quickly, even on coated paint.
- Use a coating-safe topper every few months to boost water beading.
- Decontaminate once or twice a year to remove iron fallout.
